After obsessing over the game Drakengard for a long, long time, I wanted to add one of the features to Twisted Illusionist. It is called a "pact partner".
A pact is combining souls with a human{ or elementalist, or another mythical creature that is somewhat human} and a mythical beast. You may roleplay this anywhere, and it does involves quite a bit of pain. Example; Caim from Drakengard reached into his chest { yes, into } and pulled out what would connect him to the Red Dragon Angelus as a pact partner. { The orb was very glowy } and the same thing rose in Angelus's throat, and she held it in her mouth and they connected them.
Once becoming a pact partner, if one of you dies, so does the other, but you gain considerable strength. This, however, does not mean you cannot be defeated. You are not a god, you are not the Holy Dragons{ Drakengard terms }, and you are not all powerful.
Pacts, however, come with a price. You will lose something when you enter a pact, and an emblem will be placed on the spot where you have been effected. Example; when Caim made his pact with Angelus, the emblem appeared on his tongue, and he was rendered mute.
Other examples from Drakengard:
Verdelet made a pact with a now petrified dragon, and was rendered bald and could never grow his hair back { yes, I really did mean you could lose anything. } and the emblem was placed on his head.
Leonard made a pact with the faerie Faerie, and was rendered blind, the emblem placed on his eyes { but not his eyelids. }
General Gismor made a pact with a Shadow, and in turn his body itself became a shadow.
Seere made a pact with a golem, and at the time was six years of age. His price was his time, or the ability to grow up. He is really about twenty four, but continues to look six.
Urick made a pact with a Reaper. This is one of the only cases it will be set what happens. When you make a pact with a Reaper, you will lose your mortality. You can, however, still die. When you would regularly die as a human, the Reaper enters your body to resurrect you. If the Reaper is killed while within your body, you, too, will die.
Zhangpo made a pact with an Ifrit, and lost his ability to eat and taste food, leaving him forever hungry.
Hanch made a pact with a Kelpie. She had, at one point, been beautiful and called "Sunsmile", but once she made that pact she was rendered to look like an aging old woman.
Yaha made a pact with the gnomes, losing his ability to feel pleasure, but also becoming handsome beyond regular ability. { He sort of looked like a girl to me though. }
Arioch made a pact with the spirits of water and fire, Undine and Salamander. Her price was her womb, rendering her unable to have children, yet she seems obsessed with them { she is insane, however, having watched her family die before her very eyes. }
And finally, Inuart made a pact with the black dragon Legna, losing his singing voice which Furiae { don't ask } had loved so.
Most of what happens in a pact is you lose the ability most valuable to you, or the ability you most hate. Leonard had seen his brothers dead before him and had attempted suicide.
It is to be decided between you and your pact partner who will decide the fate of the human-like partner.
