Riven looked at Carmen and realized how she had it. And though it may seem odd, he could feel when his eye changed colour. Right not it was losing its tint and returning to midnight blue because of his sympathy for her. It withered down to the silver it usually was, as a million doors within his heart were unlocked all at once.

Okay, my girl. Face them up and force them to give you the respect you deserve even if you have to grind it out of their fingers.
Carmen walked a bit faster, hoping that Riv would keep up and not think she was trying to avoid him, and looked the closest person (who happened to be the wavy-haired blond) in the eye. She saw the girl looking amused, watched her open her mouth and begin to speak, but Carmen picked a song and, not caring how creepy the lyrics seemed to people who weren't used to them or how this would just get her more bad reputations, began to sing it.
"I am after you A shadow on the hunt Don't turn around I am right behind.. you! I will get to you And take you down Tear your insides out Crush your soul!"
She closed her eyes, trying not to breathe too hard as she got ready to move on with the song- singing Angela Gossow's style always made her throat sting without the proper preparation.

Riven lifted his head at her song, never having quite heard anyone try to sing like Angela Gossow before. He believed she did a good job of it, too. And if the bastards weren't around, most likely to make fun of poor Carmen, he'd of told her so. As his voids lifted to the blond he felt his left eye burn as it grew into a chrome green.

Trying not to wheeze and choke, she continued, hating how out of practice at this she was. But she knew that if, by some random stroke of luck, the real Angela Gossow was with her, she'd be proud of her sticking up for herself. So Carmen continued.
"I am out for blood Out for your blood!
I am harder than steel Break your will Waiting all my life To kill..
I will get to you And take you down Tear your insides out Crush your soul!
I am out for blood Out for your blood!
I can. Smell your flesh. I can. Taste your sweat. I can. Sense your fear. I am right here!"
She had to stop then, before she passed out, but the looks on the faces that group that had made her life a living Hell one too many times were priceless: shock, revulsion, and even fear, as though they thought Carmen was a vampire come to kill them. At that moment, she half-wished she was.
She gave them a cheery smile as she and Riv passed to confuse them all the more.

Falling in step beside her, he said after they were out of ear shot, "You sang well, along with shocked the lot of them. Angela would be proud," he told her with a smile. He wasn't lying. Riven meant every word. And he grinned more at the looks the teenagers had plastered on their faces.

Carmen chuckled. "Thank you," she said with a slight blush, "and yeah, they did look pretty freaked out, didn't they? I'll have to remember that song. It is apparently good for scaring people." She paused. "Then again, most of the songs I know are good for that, I guess."

Riven stretched his arms above his head, then folded them behind it. "What do they usually tease you about?" he asked suddenly, feeling his eye burn as it turned green again. Apparently that group was a new source of irritation for him. But what made him so attached to her? Sure, he was generous and all, but he'd never scored with anyone.

She looked down at the ground. "Oh, almost anything they can think of. The fact that I have no friends. How quiet I am at school. My clothes." She blinked a couple times, blushing. "What I look like." Even though it was true, Carmen felt slightly embarassed talking about that. She hadn't actually told anyone how self-concious she was and all her anxieties and fears or anything remotely similar to that ever before. Then again, she supposed that at least some of this was obvious.

Riven took a breath. He couldn't believe he even vaguely thought to tell her of it. "Carmen, can I tell you something?" he asked, staring at the sky. He was sure he'd start blushing the moment he said it. The fact he was even thinking of it almost made his cheeks flame.

She tilted her head, looking up at him. "Sure." Her voice was slightly questioning as she wondered what Riv wanted to say. He looked a little tense all of a sudden.

Closing his eyes a moment, he got up all his courage, then looked to her. "It might be a bit hard to believe, but I think you're actually quite p--" "RIVENBORN AUINE DE LORME!" Riven winced, swiveling his head around to see his older brother striding toward him, broad shoulders held back and head high as he glared down at Riven. "Where have you been?" his brother demanded. "And who's this you've brought with you? Did you get detention again?" MaluVu asked the questions before Riven could even answer them. But, then again, that was MaluVu for you.

Carmen sucked in a breath, wincing slightly. She decided that even though Riv had told her he didn't need payback for that mp3 player, she'd give it to him anyway. Fighting against her natural shyness, she stepped forward and said, "It's my fault he's late." Her mind raced for an excuse. "I dropped all my school stuff and a couple pens exploded.. R-" she quickly double-checked herself-" -ivenborn helped me clean them up."

MaluVa eyed her. "Then why are you following him?" he growled. "Just leave her alone, MaluVu," Riven snapped, narrowing his eyes at his brother. It seemed his eyes would be staying bi hued for a while. "She doesn't need to explain anything to you." "You were late again!" MaluVu exploded. "Who cares?" he scowled at his brother once more, then stepped in front of Carmen. "Come on," he mumbled quietly, taking a softer tone as he started away from his older sibling.

Carmen bit her lip and followed after him. "What a pleasant personality," she sighed, looking at Riv with sympathy. The one good thing, she knew, about being an older sibling was that you couldn't get yelled at- and if you did, who cared? They were younger than you. Carmen had that benefit. Riv, however, did not.

"He's just annoyed I've been late three times this week now," Riven said. He grinned at her. "Don't worry about him. He's not amounting to much with what he's doing. Actually, neither am I. That's why I wanted to get into the air force next year." He sighed. "But anyway, before I was interupted...," he started again, clearing his throat, which seemed to have closed up. "I... I think you're pretty, Carmen. Actually"--he took a breath, blushing like hell--"I think you're more than pretty."
