Finally, it seemed, his words broke through the wall that she had carefully constructed around her heart. Over the years, Carmen had hardened herself, not allowing any sympathy or weakness to show just because it was easier that way for her, though the making of this barrier was very difficult in the early stages. Now, though, feeling emotion was a challenge. But some things we just have to do, even if we wish the exact opposite.
Sitting down on the bed and sliding close to him, Carmen tentatively rested her head on his shoulder, feeling slightly abashed because of all the yelling she had done. "I wish I knew what we could do," she murmured, not even sure what she meant by that.

Riven placed a gently kiss upon her head, whispering, "Shh. Are you alright now?" He watched the girl he loved, gazing sorrowfully at her tear stained face. But even though she looked miserable and hurt, she still seemed beautiful to him. At first, he hesitated to put his arm around her shoulders, but he felt she'd think he didn't feel the same now. That, or that he was a pervert. Either one worked well to describe it, he just didn't like the second option.

"I don't know," she whispered, but her actions had already decided for her. Snuggling closer to him, Carmen tucked her head under his chin and her breathing slowed down slightly as she calmed. In a rhythm, she repeated the words in her mind: It's alright. It wasn't his fault; it was hers. He's sorry. He loves you. Just forget.
She wanted to speak; really, she did. But Carmen felt like anything she said would only shatter the peaceful silence instead of adding to it. There are times when words are necessary, but there are others when understanding does not need speech.

When he glanced at him, Riven saw Mal's nose scrunch up in disgust. It was apparent he wasn't satisfied anymore, and Riven stuck his tongue out at him in triumph. Then, ignoring his fuming brother, he lightly squeezed Carmen's shoulder. "Do I get to see your beautiful face, or are you still mad at me?" he inquired softly, trying his best not to pay attention to how this was murder on his leg.
But she was worth that throbbing, that pain that made him suffer all the more. She was worth it all. She'll be a star one day, and I'm going to cheer for her all the way.

Carmen raised her head, smiling through the tears that had once again returned. For maybe the first time in her life, she actually wanted to be pretty. Just for him.
Sweeping some of her violet bangs out of her face, she replied quietly, "Well, I suppose you're seeing it now... and no, I'm not mad at you. I only hope you aren't upset with me for not understanding right away."

Kissing both streaks of dried tears, he told her, "Not at all. I was happy that you didn't leave, even though I was scared to death you would and I'd never see you again." Riven felt it was necessary to have told her that, and, once more, his lips touched the salty liquid that stained her cheeks. "You are beautiful you know. Even now."
His lips turned up in a smile then, and he touched the side of her head delicately with the tips of his fingers. He could feel the wound beginning to heal in his chest, and he only hoped it continued to.

"Hmm, whatever you say," Carmen laughed. She had almost forgotten what it was like to make the sound; it felt lovely. Almost as nice as making up with Riv. Almost. But not quite.
Gently, she kissed his neck, then his temple, and sat up straight so that she could gaze into his eyes as she lightly touched his cheek, fingering it tenderly. "We'll forget about all this, then?" she whispered, her eyes flicking to his lips for a fleeting second before moving back to his orbs. She'd kiss him after. They had time, after all.

He gave her a nod, the smile that pulled on his lips warm and showed as much as his eyes that forgetting would be wonderful. "Yes," he murmured to her, his voice soft with his love for her etched into it. "We'll forget about all of it, and start over."
Riven chuckled then, telling her, "Oh, hello miss, I don't think we've met. I'm Rivenborn Auine De Lorme, and you must be a gift from heaven." His mouth fell to hers then, bringing out a kiss he had longed for the moment she had stayed at his request. She tasted just the same... sweeter than anyone he'd ever kiss, if he actually kissed anyone other than her.

Carmen's slightly indignant reply was on the tip of her tongue, but it melted away at the touch of his lips on hers. She knew that he was stubborn and that that'd never change - arguing with him about her appearance or anything else wouldn't get her anywhere, no matter the situation.
His mouth was familiar, she knew as she returned the kiss, and there wasn't much different about him. Of course... did she expect so much to change in only a few hours?

As the kiss drew to an end, his lips slipping from hers gradually until their mouths were severed. His orbs now took their chance to be revealed, gazing onto the face of the one and only Carmen, who Riven would forever be obsessed with. "Mm, oh yeah. You're a gift from heaven, and they made you the best of them all." Having spoken these words, he kissed the bridge of her nose, touching the strands of her silken hair with the tips of his fingers.

"You're just the same as always," Carmen murmured, reaching up to touch his temple lightly with her fingertips. "Flattering, sweet, kind, but too much so. I don't believe a word that you say about my supposed besting of everyone else, or however you want to phrase it."
She smiled up at him, then shook her head slightly, freeing the strands of her hair from his gentle grip. Carmen wasn't really sure why - she just liked to tease him, really. And what was the point of always being serious? You had to have some good old fashioned fun once and a while, even if it was mildly childish.

"But it's true," he insisted, playfully tapping the tip of her nose. "Ma amour." Riven nictated innocently at her, flashing her a grin as he scooped up her hand. Then, his voids still upon her, he brought it closer to his lips until he left a feather light kiss upon the back of it. But, at the end o his little act, he did not release her or move her hand from his mouth.
Pasts aren't always perfect, lives aren't always great... but love, love is what you look into the eyes and feel your heart racing and never moving from that person. That was how Riven felt at the moment, there with Carmen. His Carmen, mind you.

Once again, she waggled her head from side to side, unable to stop a slight blush. "The world would be a better place if people never had to blush," Carmen decided silently. "It'd be a lot less awkward and a lot more composed. Isn't that a good thing?"
Switching to a more serious note, she said, "I see the extent of your damage was pretty severe, then..." and eyed him with concern. There was little she could do; already she knew that, but she wished it wasn't carved in stone like it was.

Leaving a kiss on her cheek, he declared, "This is nothing, nothing at all. In fact, I am sure I can walk right now!" But, with an unresponsive moment, he rubbed the back of his head with his right arm. "Okay, maybe tomorrow... but even if not, I am still glad I have you, Carmen. I don't know what I'd do if I ever lost you."
He reached up and toyed gently with her hair, his features soft as he peered at her. Her light eyes, her delicate skin, her delicious lips... oh, he hadn't been supposed to think the last bit, he realized after mentioning it in his mind, then mentally shrugged.

A smile grew on her lips at his words. "And I'm glad to have you. I shouldn't have judged you on the past so quickly, I guess. You don't deserve that... we both know it. What's done is done. No use crying over spilt milk, is there?"
Carmen believed in every letter that she had spoken to Riv. This was a time for new beginnings... new leaves... a fresh start.
Why think about the past when the glory of the future is beckoning?
