Carmen gave a nod. "Sure." She could hardly wait already, and hesitated, not really knowing how to say goodbye. By the point, she was quite certain about her feelings for Riv.. but even if she knew he liked her, she was still a bit unsure of what to do. And besides, Zem was standing right there, so all she did was take his hand and squeeze it gently. "Bye, Riv."

"See you around, Carmen," he replied, watching as she walked off with her brother. Riven wouldn't think it any danger, but the sound of footsteps yet again on the pavement startled him. Especially seeing it was MaluVu striding toward Carmen. Biting his lip, Riven started toward them. Today might be longer than yesterday...

She nodded and started to walk off with Zem, who walked quickly, eager to return to his games. Carmen rolled her eyes. At least I'm not as bad as him.
Then she realized that Riv's older brother was walking towards her and sped up to Zem's pace. For some reason, that guy made her nervous.

MaluVu grunted, moving to get in the way of the two he was pacing toward. He would get some answers out of this girl, since he knew he'd never get a word out of his brother. Riven had never told him anything. At all. As a matter of fact, he could see his little brother from the corner of his eye. But his orbs were fixed on Carmen.

Deciding that this wasn't someone she could outrun, Carmen reached out and grabbed her little brother by his greasy shirt collar to stop him. "Go home," she instructed Zem, "and tell Mom and Dad I'll be there soon, okay?" Zemestan nodded and rushed off.
Carmen forced herself to look in the orbs of Riv's brother. She was afraid, for what reason she didn't know, but she was. "Something wrong?" she asked, eyeing him warily.

MaluVu snorted. "You never answered when I asked why you were following Rivenborn around. I want an answer." His head shot up and he glared at Riven, an icy stare that should have stopped his brother in his tracks. But Riven wasn't like the youngest of the brothers. Riven wouldn't back down for anything.

A quick flame of hot anger welled up inside of Carmen. She wasn't going to let this overprotective idiot of a brother boss her around, and folded her arms defensively. "Why do you care, anyway? Are you his mother?" she scoffed. "I assure you that I was not 'following Rivenborn around' for any reason that would harm him or you, so I don't see why it matters."

"I didn't ask for commentary," MaluVu growled. "I asked what you were doing following in around." "Leave her alone, Mal." Riven stared with a coldest gleam to his eyes up at his brother. "You're not going to answer me, so maybe she will," MaluVu grunted. the veins in his neck were starting to outline from anger. Riven stepped up next to Carmen and whispered, "The moment he looks away from you... I want you to run." And with those words spoken, he strode a good ten paces from the both of them. "What's the matter, Mal? Afraid you're not strong enough to convince me to tell you? You're probably right, you always were pretty horrible at that." It worked. MaluVu started at Riven, completely forgetting Carmen.

Carmen turned and raced off in the direction that Zem had a little earlier, though she wished she didn't have to. She was grateful for the escape, yes, but she didn't want Riv to get himself in trouble, or hurt. Oh well, it was too late for that. She'd talk to him tomorrow.. but she'd probably spend another night worrying until then.

"Three cuts and a bruise on my back," Riven cataloged to himself the damage he received from MaluVu, especially after he realized it had been an escape plan for Carmen. "Fractured arm and nearly got my teeth knocked loose. Wow, Riven, you're real good at getting yourself into trouble." As he stepped into the Town Square, he gazed around. There were a ton of people around, and he could barely see anything past them.

After she had gotten home, Carmen had been confined to her room ("Mom I'm not six." "Maybe not, but you're acting like it, young lady." "This is so stupid!" "Just go, Carmen."), and now she paced the lengths of the small, box-shaped area like a caged tiger. A very worried caged tiger. What if Riv's brother had gone crazy and practically killed him? It was her fault, either way.
Carmen glanced down at her new mp3 player, which she had recently filled up, and turned it on, inserting her headphones. Immediately, Narcosynthesis began to blast from the little device, and Carmen, as always, couldn't resist singing along. At least it made her feel a little better, and forget some of her anxiety.
"Hypnotize me Mesmerize me Drain the color from my eyes Patronize me Energize me Change the world, internalize.."
"Shut up!" Carmen's dad roared irritably from the next room over, and Carmen shut up. She knew how much her dad hated her music, and he had just gotten home from work, which always put him in a horrid mood.

Riven had paced around the Square at least ten times, and there was no sign of Carmen. The fact worried him. Then he remembered where she lived, though it was quite a walk from where he was. He started for the house where she lived, thinking over and over about what had happened before, and how agitated MaluVu already was with him. But his brother was one thing. Carmen was another.

Eventually she was just too bored and annoyed not to do something, and pocketed her mp3 player, going over to the window. Her house was one-storey and her bedroom was around the back of it, while the kitchen and living room area, where her parents probably were by now, was at the front. Zem's room was beside hers, but he wouldn't care what she did. He was too wrapped up in Call of Duty or whatever that new game he got was called.
Carmen opened her window and looked down, then rolled her eyes, smirking. Her parents were stupid if they thought that she was just going to stay locked up in her room for some unnamed and unknown crime from the Bible of Parenting. She slipped out of her window, landing on solid ground a meter later.

"Seems lively," he muttered sarcastically to himself, looking at the house. He wasn't about to knock. No, Riven wasn't one to walk up to houses and ring a doorbell or anything, especially not in this case. The scenario played in his mind. "Uh, hey is Carmen home?" "Who are you? Her boyfriend? Ha! Get out of my house." That was a completely wonderful thought, huh?

She checked around the corner, peeking into the window, and luckily for her, her father's back was turned as he poured over a newspaper. Her mother, though, was chopping carrots at the sink, directly in front of Carmen. She ducked quickly, preferring to crouch and travel under the window than get caught. Then she made a break for it, hurrying down the driveway and behind a neighbor's bush. To her surprise, she saw Riv waiting a little further on, and almost ran out to him, but she didn't want to get caught, so she just stuck to hoping he had seen her and would come over himself.
